Most courses come with four preset Assignment Templates to make creating new assignments FAST and EASY. It takes the guesswork out of settings and ensures consistency across like-assignments.

Our preset templates follow our recommended settings and work for virtually any type of assignment from Practice to a Final Exam. You can always create your own Custom Templates to supplement the preset templates!  That's EASY too!

When selecting a template, a description will appear, but the following also outlines how each preset Assignment Template functions and when each is best used.


Practice Template

This is the least restrictive of the preset templates. It is best used for graded or ungraded practice or if you want the assignment to be a grade booster.
  • Unlimited attempts:  Students can access, work, and turn in the assignment as many times as they want, within the timeframe set by your Opening/Closing settings.
    • Each new attempt is prepopulated with the Student's previous responses.
    • If graded, student will receive the highest grade earned.
  • Check Feature:   There is a Check button at the end of every question
    • Reveals grade for the question and correct/incorrect indicators for each response field 
      • Green check = correct; Red X = incorrect)
    • Unlimited use (Student must complete question before the button will activate)
  • Access to Resources:  eBook (subscription required), videos (if applicable), and the ability to print are available from within the assignment.
  • Question Number:  The question number as it appears in the text is visible to students.
  • Review:  Students have full review capability between each submission and after the Closing date/time set by the instructor.
    • Grade, right/wrong indicators, written feedback (if included with question), access to correct answers.

Homework (Check Feature) Template

This templates is best if you want homework to be a learning tool allowing students to learn in the moment, or if you want the assignment to be a grade booster.

Think of it like you are standing behind them pointing out what is right/wrong and letting them fix their mistakes before turning it in.

  • One attempt:  Students can only submit the assignment once, but they have that Check button!
  • Check Feature:  There is a Check button at the end of every question
    • Reveals grade for the question and correct/incorrect indicators for each response field 
      • Green check = correct; Red X = incorrect)
    • Unlimited use (Student must complete question before the button will activate)
  • Access to Resources:  eBook (subscription required), videos (if applicable), and the ability to print are available from within the assignment.
  • Question Number:  The question number as it appears in the text is not visible to students.
  • Review:  Students can see their grade and right/wrong indicators upon submission and when reviewing before the Closing date/time (if submitted early)
    • Students have full review capability after the Closing date/time set by the instructor
      • Grade, right/wrong indicators, written feedback (if included with question), access to correct answers.

Homework (No Check Feature) Template

This template is best used if you want the assignment to be an assessment tool to see how much of the material the students have mastered thus far, while still allowing for multiple tries.

Think of it like you are in front of the class. They hand in the assignment, you mark it up, then return it to them to review and make corrections. You're generous; you give them a few tries!

  • Three attempts:  Students may submit the assignment up to three times, but they don't get any help while they are working.
    • Each new attempt will be prepopulated with their previous responses.
    • Student will receive the highest grade earned.
  • Check Feature:  NOPE! No check button here! Students must submit the assignment before they receive any feedback.
  • Access to Resources:  eBook (subscription required), videos (if applicable), and the ability to print are available from within the assignment.
  • Question Number:  The question number as it appears in the text is not visible to students.
  • Review:  Students can review each attempt upon submission and before the Closing date/time set by the instructor. They will see their grade and the right/wrong indicators for each answer field.
    • Students have full review capability after the Closing date/time set by the instructor
      • Grade, right/wrong indicators, written feedback (if included with question), access to correct answers.

Quiz/Exam Template

The Quiz/Exam template is best for any testing situation, from a brief Quiz to a Final Exam. It is the most restrictive...where the rubber meets the road!

  • One attempt:  Students may submit the assignment once and they don't get any help while they are working.
  • Check Feature:  NOPE! No check button here! They're all on their own.
  • Access to Resources:  There is no access to resources from within the assignment.
  • Question Number:  The question number as it appears in the text is not visible to students.
  • Review:  Students receive ONLY their grade upon submission (they can't review until after the Closing date/time)
    • Students have full review capability after the Closing date/time set by the instructor
      • Grade, right/wrong indicators, written feedback (if included with question), access to correct answers.
