If you set up an Extra Credit category in your gradebook, you will need to set the category as Extra Credit (not the assignments within it). All assignments contained within the Extra Credit category will be graded as Extra Credit.
If you do not use an Extra Credit grade category, you can set individual assignments as Extra Credit.
Both options are outlined below.
Using an Extra Credit Grade Category
- First go to the Gradebook and create a Grade Category for Extra Credit assignments.
- In the Gradebook, select the Setup tab on the top row and Gradebook setup on the bottom row of tabs.
- Click Edit associated with the Extra Credit category. Select Edit Settings.
- Click Parent category to expand. Check box for Extra Credit then Save changes.
- Move Extra Credit assignments into the Extra Credit category (see guide linked in Step 1).
Extra Credit Assignments
To grade a selected assignment as extra credit:
- Go to the Gradebook.
- Select the Setup tab on the top row and Gradebook setup on the bottom row of tabs.
- In the Actions column, click Edit associated with the Assignment. Select Edit Settings.
- Click Parent category to expand. Check box for Extra Credit then Save changes.
Extra Credit assignments will appear in the gradebook with a + next to the point value.
When assigning extra credit, students will receive credit for doing the assignment and will not be penalized for not completing it.
