  • The Assignment Transition Guide contains only book-sourced questions (end-of-chapter/module assignments) found in the HOMEWORK question bank.

So, your text rolled to a new edition...Now What?

In order to help with the transition to a new edition, we provide you with an Assignment Transition Guide found in the new edition Ancillaries. This guide shows which end-of-chapter questions have moved, changed, been added or deleted, and indicates which are available to assign on auto grades assignments.  

The guide is organized by Chapter/Module, then by Question type to make it easy to follow and find what you need.

In a nutshell, the steps to transition your course are listed below. Read further for additional detail.

  1. Obtain access to the new edition materials.
  2. Generate a New Course under the new edition.
  3. Rebuild assignments in the New edition course using the Assignment Transition Guide

The new edition course can be copied for use in future terms (assignments included), throughout the life of the edition.


Transition to a New Edition Course

Step 1:  Request Materials

If you do not yet have access to the New Edition, Request Access.  

  1. From your Dashboard's menu panel, click Request Materials.
  2. Click Make Request.
  3. Find the needed text in the Catalog and click the green Request button.

  4. Fill out a brief form and follow prompts to complete the request.

Once approved, you will see the new edition text on your Dashboard.


Step 2:  Generate a New Edition Course

Create a New course under the New edition. The course shell will include all video content, but no assignments.

  1. Locate the New edition on the Dashboard. Click Create New Course.
  2. In the Courses section, Name the new course and select the appropriate Term.
    If the needed Term is not listed, check Enter a term and type in the information.
  3. On the bottom half of the page, select the Number of sections for the term if more than one.
    Name the Section(s) and enter the Section End Date  for each.
    • Section Start Date is optional (beginning of term)
    • Section End Date is required (end of term)
  4. Click Create Course.

Once generated, you will see the new edition course on your Dashboard.


Step 3:  Rebuild Assignments

If you have not yet downloaded the Assignment Transition Guide, click Ancillaries on your Dashboard or left Menu Panel to download. If you do not see the blue Download buttons, click Request Materials in the yellow-shaded area at the top of the page.

  1. From your Dashboard, Open the NEW edition course by RIGHT CLICKING on the green Go to Course  button. 
    • IMPORTANT....Select Open link in New Window.
    •  Move the new window off to one side of your screen.
  2. Go back to the original window/tab showing your Dashboard. Open the OLD edition course by clicking the green Go to Course Button.
    You can now set up the separate windows side-by-side to see both courses at once.

  3. Click Course Content on the menu panel for each course and navigate to the needed area of each course. (The example below shows Chapter 1 for each course; Menu not shown for new course in image).

    Follow the remaining steps for each assignment to be transitioned to the new edition....

  4. In the OLD course, click Edit for the assignment to be transitioned. Select Edit Settings.
    In the NEW course, click Add an assignment or resource. Select Autod assignment.
    Your screen should look something like this...
     
  5. SETTINGS Screens (shown above)
    • Copy the Assignment Name in the OLD course and paste into the NEW course (Settings Screen), or type in the Assignment Name in the New course.
    • Select the matching Assignment Template. in the NEW course.
    • In NEW course click on the green Save & Continue to Timing  button (lower right; not shown)
    • Optional: Click on TIMING tab in OLD course.
  6. TIMING Screen (NEW Course)
    • Set Timing for each Section as needed in NEW Course by toggling the Open and Close Date/Time fields to ON  and setting as needed for the assignment.
      • Time Limit is optional (allowed amount of time to finish once started; real-time running clock)
    • Click Save & Continue to Questions.
    • Click on the QUESTIONS tab in OLD course.
  7. Open the Assignment Transition Guide if not already accessible.
    Below is an example of both courses and the Transition Guide open with all windows viewable. 
  8. QUESTIONS Screens
    • Click on the associated chapter/module tab on the Assignment Transition Guide (Ex: Ch 1)
    • Locate the question number from the OLD course assignment (Ex: M01.13)
    • Find the question number in the Old edition's column and determine the new location/question number from the New edition's column.  (Ex: M01.13 is now M1.15 in the new edition)*

       * Note: some questions may be deleted, change question types, or move chapters in the new edition.
  9. Add the New edition version of the question to the New edition assignment.
    Repeat until all needed questions are transitioned. 
    • Make any additional adjustments as desired.

       
  10. When you have finished transitioning the assignment, click Save & Exit.
  11. Repeat for other assignments as needed.
